RemisenBrandeis far more than bricks and memories – it’s a vibrant meeting place wherehistory, aesthetics, and innovation create the perfect setting for today’s mostimportant conversations and moments.

More than 100 years ago – on January 1st, 1914, to beexact – a new railway line was inaugurated in Denmark, and the station inBrande became a central part of this new transport route. The town even becamea railway hub, and at the height of the railway era, more than 500 peopleworked here. They were employed by the Danish State Railways and held a widevariety of positions in the railway industry.

Shortly after, a brand-new train depot – the remise –was built next to the station, soon capable of housing up to 14 large andimpressive steam locomotives.

Day and night, around 80 dedicated workers toiled inthe depot. They maintained and prepared the powerful engines, and the air wasfilled with the scent of motor oil, coal, and hard work.

Passion and international art
After decades of vital railway activity, the laststeam locomotive departed from the depot in 1969, and by 1971, the remise wasfully shut down. An era had come to an end. The 14 tracks leading into the vastdepot building now stood silent, and the sounds of bustling workers andrumbling trains were gone.

But luckily, that wasn’t the end of the story.

Passionate local enthusiasts ensured that new lifecould emerge in and around the once abandoned and now crumbling building. Inthe 1990s, jazz music echoed through the halls, and international art gracedthe rustic surroundings of the depot.

The historic building was about to rise even furtherfrom the dust. With financial support from Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’sFoundation, the former Brande Municipality, Ringkøbing County, Realdania, andseveral local businesses, a major restoration project was launched.

Where moments are created
In September 2006, RemisenBrande was officially reopened. Fully restored, elegant and proud, the historic train depot began a new chapter. Like a phoenixfrom the ashes, it rose to new life.
